GUIDED BACKCOUNTRY SKIING- SINGLE DAY TOURS
New to backcountry skiing? Do you have gear, but never felt confident to travel outside of a ski area or controlled boundaries?
Join Jamie Pierce, for a day in the beautiful yet accessible mountains of Colorado's Front Range on Pikes Peak. Forget the crowds, the driving, the scene and expensive lunchs. Ski touring is a way in which alpine skiers or backcountry enthusiast can readily access terrain in a manner that allows both an ascent, and descent, both a rich and fun, but require knowledge. Technique is crucial and safety is paramount. To name a few skills that are required we go over these skills informally all while moving through terrain in one of many venues around Pikes Peak.
In order to truly enjoy this day we recommend that skiers be at least intermediate ability with all the requisite gear. Our guides are in the mountains regularly, offering you unsurpassed attention to personal and group safety and experience.
Technique and skills covered, include but not limited to:
- Avalanche rescue review
- Basic tour planning and implementation.
- Gear considerations.
- Risk management.
- Communication.
- Beacon use. Functionality/common myths and misunderstandings, with practice prior to start.
- Terrain selection, micro and macro assessments.
- Track setting and pacing.
- Offered to Telemark, Randonee or Off-Piste Skiers, Snowboarders on Split boards. Full knowledge of how to use equipment required.
