Advanced Crevasse Rescue, 1-day

Improvisation is the key to fast and affective crevasse rescue. This segment takes crevasse rescue to the next level. We all know 3:1 direct haul as the fundamental system, but here we introduce other systems that can prove much more efficient during a crevasse fall. For those who want the right tool for the job this advanced course offers a multitude of systems from which to draw from in the crevasse field.

Advanced Skills taught but not limited to:

  • Rigging for glacier travel
  • Knot craft and rope management
  • Poor snow quality anchors, human anchor systems
  • Aid systems
  • Crevasse rescue on skis
  • Stopper knots for 2 person travel and the haul system to work around stopper knots
  • Belay techniques, and fixed lines
  • Rappel and rope ascent using more than prusik
  • C-loop, 6:1, haul systems and more tools to draw from
  • Block and tackle for fast error correction
  • Garda hitch, tibloc, micro traction and more
  • Other advanced techniques

Client Expectations:
Previous crevasse rescue skills necessary. Must be dialed on 3:1 direct haul and basic snow anchors.

Equipment Provided:
Stiff mountaineering boots, winter clothing and headwear are required. Crampons, ice axe, harness and helmets are supplied. We do rent double plastic boots. Email us for gear list and any other inquires.
