Ice Climbing Lead Course, 2-Day

Teaching new skills and techniques for the aspiring ice leader is the foundation for this 2-Day Ice Course. We’ll deliver a practical set of skills necessary to progress safely in the frozen world of ice. The primary focus is to begin to develop skills for the climber to safely lead on their own.

Skills covered but not limited to:

  • Belaying fundamental
  • Belayer safety on ice
  • Rope management
  • Edge safety
  • Knots and gear selection
  • Ice screws placement and v-threads
  • Anchors, multi pitch and top rope
  • Top managed belay considerations
  • Climbing leash-less, pros and cons
  • Efficient movement for long pitch endurance

Client Expectations:

  • Prior ice climbing experience on top rope or following
  • Comfortable following WI3+

Must provide own climbing gear. Rental available.

All or our ice guides have taken the AMGA Ice Instructor Course at a minimum.

Not Included:
Transportation and toll fees, accommodations, food, and guide gratuity.

  • Lincoln Falls on Hoosier Pass,near Breckenridge. October-May (Travel fee applies if guide meets climbers at venue, no fee if guide rides with climbers).
  • North Cheyenne Canyon, Hully Gully, in Colorado Springs. December-March

2 climbers : 1 guide

Travel fee when guide meets climbers at Lincoln Falls, $95

Maximum: 2 climbers to 1 guide ratio for advanced ice
