Avalanche Awareness Field Course, 1-Day

Colorado SpringsEducationModerate +No Experience NeededPublic CourseSnow

This one day field course focuses on avalanche terrain recognition, hazard management, team communication, travel techniques, and companion rescue. We will spend a full day on the mountain in avalanche terrain.

This training is designed for people new to the backcountry, those traveling in the backcountry with no formal avalanche education, and those who are recreating in terrain adjacent to but not necessarily in avalanche terrain. This course is only a one day time commitment for those not able to take the 3 day AIARE Level I; we still recommend you take AIARE Level I if you will be recreating in steeper terrain. This course gives you the tools to travel in the backcountry by specifically relating how the terrain you are exploring relates to avalanche hazard.

Use of Ortovox 3+ transceiver, probe, and shovel are included.  Ski/splitboard or snowshoes are required.
