Family and Kid Friendly Gym To Crag, 2-Part Course

Safety is the key to having a good day of climbing! If you and your littles (or not-so-little teenagers) are new to outdoor climbing or you’ve been climbing with friends or meet-ups at the crag and want to learn how to set up and clean the systems yourself, this skills-intensive course is for you! This course teaches you to properly and safely build solid anchors as well as clean and rappel from a route. You will learn new systems and techniques for safer and more efficient climbing in a family-friendly context.

$250 -per climber for CityROCK members

$275 -per climber for non-CityROCK members

  • Day 1: 3 hour Friday evening session at CityROCK taught by Pikes Peak Alpine School and assisted by CityROCK staff
  • Day 2: 8 hour Saturday field session in Colorado Springs guided by Pikes Peak Alpine School and assisted by CityROCK staff
  • 8:2 maximum student to guide ratio
  • 3:1 minimum ratio to run course

You will learn about:

  • Risk management
  • Proper universal climbing communication
  • Gear selection
  • Anchors (including cleaning anchors safely and efficiently)
  • Rappelling and lowering
  • Back-up rappel systems
  • Lead belaying and belayer positioning
  • Rope handling
  • How to present and teach basic climbing skills to children and adolescents.
  • Red Rock Canyon Open Space

All technical climbing equipment and professional guidance.

Adult climbers taking this special CityROCK partnership course must be top rope belay certified at the gym. Some prior climbing experience is best but not required. If you are looking to transition from climbing at the gym to safely climbing at the crag with your children, this is the course for you! Children as young as 6 are welcome to attend this family-focused experience.

Please refer to the gear list for this course. Since this is a beginner-focused course, we will provide any equipment that you do not have. You are welcome to bring your own gear if you have it!
