Crevasse Rescue & Glacier Travel, 2-Day

Seeking to add glacier travel techniques to your alpine skill set?  This two day course offers comprehensive hands-on training for safely negotiating glaciated terrain as well as introduces you to crevasse rescue skills that will prepare you for climbing such classics as Mounts Rainier, Baker, Shuksan, and beyond.  Spending two days in the field ensures that you better understand and can practice the fundamental systems of glacier rigging and rescue.

Skills taught but not limited to:

  • Route selection
  • Rigging for glacier travel
  • Knot craft and rope management
  • Snow anchors
  • Belay techniques and fixed lines
  • Rappelling considerations and rope ascent
  • Rescue haul systems
  • Moat and bergschrund navigation
  • Other fundamentals

We guide in the North Cascades in Washington and this course can be added on to the front end of a guided climb as preparation for any number of objectives.  See our North Cascades page or contact us for more information.

Client Expectations:
Previous snow climbing experience or Snow Climbing Introduction Course.

Equipment Provided:
Stiff mountaineering boots, winter clothing, and headwear are required. Crampons, ice axes, harnesses, and helmets are provided.  We rent double plastic mountaineering boots.

  • 16 hour public course (2-day)
  • Price is per person
  • 6:1 max. ratio
  • 2:1 min. ratio to run course

*Pikes Peak Highway tollgate fee of $10-15/person/day not included.
